2008 Memory Portraits (Vietnam)

  • The Project

Portraits for disabled women in Vietnam

The project is based off of Ben Schumaker’s “The Memory Project”, a unique initiative in which artists create portraits for those living in challenging situations around the world. Because those who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, or orphaned usually have few personal keepsakes, the purpose of the portraits is to provide them with a special memory of themselves and to help honor their heritage and identity.

Portrait Recipients are women from Lifestart Foundation Workshop.

Initiated by Sherry Berger in 2008, the non-profit Lifestart Foundation Workshop focuses on creating unique handmade arts/crafts to help support those living in challenging situations in and around Hoi An, Vietnam. Each item is individually made by members of the workshop and the entire proceeds from the sale of the products go directly to the workshop members to provide a sustainable income and sense of independence. Sherry hand delivered the portraits in September 2008. Check out the blogs!
