Purpose of Memory Portraits
The Memory Project is a unique initiative in which artists create portraits (drawings, paintings, graphic design, etc) for those living in challenging situations around the world. Because those who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, or orphaned usually have few personal keepsakes, the purpose of the portraits is to provide them with a special memory of themselves and to help honor their heritage and identity.”
The concept of this project was based on The Memory Project
Founder Sherry Berger has had a close relationship with the organization since her travel to Vietnam in 2006. It was in Hoi An where she spent time volunteering and later initiated the Lifestart Foundation Workshop in 2007. The non-profit Lifestart Foundation Workshop focuses on creating unique handmade arts/crafts to help support those living in challenging situations in and around Hoi An, Vietnam. Each item is individually made by members of the workshop and the entire proceeds from the sale of the products go directly to the workshop members to provide a sustainable income and sense of independence.
