“I’m particularly drawn to shadows, and how light itself, paints a picture. I translate most everything I paint into black and white, so as to show the movement of the shadow from dark to light, allowing the light to complete the painting. The Femme Series has been my life’s work; studying how the female body undulates and mounds, and how the shadows that are formed accentuate the feminine. Even with imperfections, age, and scars the female body remains sensual.” – Karen Shelly-Genther
